‘We train hard to accomplish athletic pole routines and pay our soaring rents’, they say. ‘Losing our livelihoods would have devastating effects’
They continue; ‘We are a group of women in East London from a traditional and local industry who have united to demand a better deal. We work shifts, often in poorly maintained environments with extremely exploitative business practises. As self-employed contractors, every time we work we must pay fees to managers who also frequently charge up to 50% commission of our earnings, and can impose arbitrary fines on top. We are treated as employees, comply with shift schedules, conform to codes of conduct regarding our
dress and behaviour. Yet we have no contracts of services or employment protections; we have no job security and can be sacked without notice. We have decided to take action and fight for better working conditions and strippers employment contracts in our industry.’

A new lap-dancing club close to Leicester City Hall headquarters has been granted a permission
Councillors have granted permission to a group of businessmen to open a new lap-dancing club in Leicester city centre.
The venue, called Chasers, will open in Free Lane, off Charles Street – just a few yards from the council’s City Hall headquarters.
The council has a policy of only allowing five “sexual entertainment venues” in the city centre and Braunstone Gate areas. Currently there are four and Chasers will become the fifth when it opens next month.
The club will operate from 8pm until 4am Sunday to Thursday and from 8pm until 6am on Fridays and Saturdays.
Licensing panel chairman Councillor John Thomas said: “We believe a vibrant night-time economy is vital to the regeneration of our city centre. We consider this venue is in a suitable location and that the applicants are capable people.”

Sad news for the strip industry- The Flying Scotsman has now officially closed doors to become an ordinary gastro pub. It was honoured by many as one of the last classic strip pubs with atmosphere and spirit like no other.
bar licence was refused by council
The firm behind the plans for the Midnight Lounge premises was given a chance to persuade councillors to grant permission but failed.
The application was refused by Wrexham Council on 27 July, but in a strange move decided to offer a hearing at which the pros and cons of the application would be heard. The initial proposal for a lap dance club, in a premise that lacked planning permission for a sexual entertainment venue, faced 8 written objections and a number of petitions suggesting the granting of a licence would be inappropriate.
Following extensive discussion at a licensing hearing on Monday (13th Oct), members of the Environmental committee of Wrexham Council took the decision to refuse the licence. The decision to refuse was taken on the grounds that it would be inappropriate to grant having: “regard to the character of the relevant locality the use to which premises in the vicinity are put; and further that the number of sex establishments in the relevant locality is equal to the number which the authority considers appropriate for the locality, namely two”.

Fantasy Palace, in Shandwick Place, could be transformed into 11 upmarket apartments if new plans get the go-ahead – with an extra floor added to the top of the building to make room for three penthouse flats and a roof terrace.
The proposals have been lodged by club owner Tommy Diresta and would see the value of the site soar if planning permission is secured.
