The rapid growth in table/lap/pole dancing clubs in the UK since the turn of the millennium has had a number of spin off effects many creating new businesses offering costumes, poles etc. Amongst the most significant developments have been the growth in internet sites catering for the business and in schools set up to train people in pole dancing, striptease, and the like. A new venture launched in January 2005 combines 2 of these elements with the very successful Mypole web site linking with the respected school Polecatz to offer the first range of relevant lessons which are offered across the country in many locations.
Mypole owner Kimbal told me “ The web site attracts a lot of interest both from would be dancers and also girls who simply want get fit via pole dancing. In the last couple of years the most common question I have been asked is “ where local to me are there classes you can recommend”. When Polecatz approached me with the idea it seemed a natural fit “.Currently the school offers a wide range of courses ranging from “ hen night” specials for private parties to courses aimed at professional dancers looking to improve their technique. The quality control is ensured by Polecatz’s Fiona and Vanessa who make sure that new locations meet the same standard as existing ones and run the same basic range of courses.
The school currently has classes in London, Newcastle, Cardiff, Bristol, Sheffield, Liverpool, Bournemouth, Manchester, Nottingham, Edinburgh, and Glasgow and is actively looking for further operators to run classes in cities and the larger towns not currently covered. The classes mainly take place in smart city centre nightclubs during the daytime and always have experienced instructors.
Fiona told me “ We currently teach150 to 200 girls a week nationally split roughly 30 % fitness, 60 % hen nights, and 10 % girls who want to work professionally. The courses are tailored to meet everybody’s needs “.Further information on the courses are available via the web site or by e mail[email protected] or by telephone 020 8698 7751.
