Hot on the heels of the announcement of the opening of a Dublin club it emerged that Peter Stringfellow is set to buy the former Trap nightclub in Wardour Street which will be re-opened as Stringfellow’s Soho complete with Angel’s licences permitting in February next year. This will bring him up to 4 clubs 2 in London, Dublin, and Paris.
The heats for the annual “Exotic dancer of the year” competition to be held on September 3rd took place on June 9th at Hoxton Hall. Entrants include Shoreditch regulars like Chiqui and Emily.
Further competitions are coming in thick and fast. There is a new online strip site www.thedailystrip.com { though there was nothing on it when I looked} recruiting in the Stage while in Huddersfield the lingerie company Blush is running a competition during June and July to find the town’s sexiest lap dancer at the Billie Boy bar. The Medusa club in Birmingham also held an amateur pole dancing competition with cash prizes in June.
SFI the pub group who owned the FYEO chain went into receivership late in June. The only table dancing club affected is FYEO Mayfair as all the others were sold several months ago.

A recent survey amongst 15 to 19 year old girls showed that most of them had a positive image of the glamour business with over 25% viewing lap dancing as an attractive career as against just 3% who wanted to be teachers !
A new strip pub to me called the Command House has opened in Chatham, Thursday and Sunday nights only at present. Peterborough’s first club Angels opened on June 10th as forecast in last month’s column. Leicester club Blue X which closed a few months ago re-opened in June. An application to convert the Bar Denial into the first lap dancing club in Ashton under Lyme was made in June. Another new club to me is Club X in Walsall but I understand it’s been open now for over a year ! Tony Callaghan the owner of Wigan’s Stilletto’s club has applied to open a similar club in nearby St Helens.

Nottingham which vies with Glasgow and Manchester as the most narrow minded council in the UK has turned down an attempt by private members club Conrad’s to get a PEL. This despite Senoritas gaining one after the usual wasteful appeals process only a few months ago.

An attempt to open a 2nd club in Bolton to be called “ The Penthouse” has been abandoned after council opposition, likewise a proposal for a club called the “ Gentleman’s club” in Rolfe St Smethwick has failed. Also the pub Speed the Plough’s 2nd attempt at running striptease shows has ended all too quickly.
