Karim Auobi, owner of Urban Tiger, said he was confident that the licence would be renewed as the club provides a safe place to have a night drink for people of all genders, age and taste, as well as a living for 35 people, 80 per cent of whom are women.
“We therefore take great care to run good establishment, complying fully with all our legal obligations and licence conditions. Furthermore, it is a venue that attracts no trouble and the police never have to attend Urban Tiger to deal with disorder”, he stated.

After the club was refused their licence renewal in 2013, they appealed and on 30 April 2014 Mr. Justice Stuart Smith quashed the Council’s refusal to renew the licence. The panel acknowledged that there “had been no licencing issues or enforcement activity since 2005 when the club began operating and they were “content that the Club was well and responsibly managed and there was evidence to show that it had been taken appropriate steps to deal with complaints that had been brought to its attention”.

Nevertheless, the committee concluded a further sexuality entertainment venue would be inappropriate with the developing cultural and family character of the location.
