Meet the Liverpool mum-of-four who says she is changing the face of lap dancing industry
Strip Magazine was honoured to step inside the world of Rude- a club owned by a mum of four who is trying to show the ‘glamour’ of the strip industry
Amy Gwynn- the owner of Rude, shared with us what makes the club a truly unique place to visit. She says dancers at the club celebrate their “beauty, confidence and power” and that both men and women are welcome.
‘At Rude, we are trying to challenge the taboos associated with the industry and reveal its glamorous side’, said Amy.
Rude stages a wide range of performances-from adult-themed shows to pole dances and both men and women are welcomed to enjoy them, the mum from Liverpool adds.
It’s now almost a decade now since Rude gentlemen’s club started providing a ‘sexy’ service in vibrant Liverpool.
And while it always had a reputation for a highly ‘glamorous’ and ‘exclusive’ venue, Amy believes its time to switch-up and host a wider audience of customers revealing the modern side of the industry and breaking the stigmatized and outdated attitudes towards striptease.
“It is the aim of our brand to show the glamorous side of female entertainment.
“Every night our women take the spotlight to celebrate their beauty, confidence and power.”
Amy also shared with us that her business is very much a reflection of the strong and inspiring women she had met in her life.
The club was previously based in the former Pleasure Rooms building on Duke Street but moved to a larger ‘super-club’ on the same street last year.
Since moving into the premises of former Society nightclub and undergoing a complete revamp, Amy wanted to give Rude somewhat of a re-brand.
The 31-year-old said: “In January last year we moved to our new super-club, now the largest in the North West, with a purpose-built stage where both men and women are welcomed to enjoy all our adult-themed shows from pole performances to fire shows.”
‘It is a family oriented business, so creating the best work environment for my staff is a top priority for me’, said the mum-of-four.
“I felt it was important that the design process of our club was completely in the hands of women, from myself as a female boss, to teaming with Beth Begg Design, to consulting our girls at every stage, she added.
“We believe we’ve created a really special place for everyone to enjoy.
“To compliment the grandeur of our entertaining space, we now have our modern dressing room, toilet facilities, and on-site makeup room and make up artist.
“The response from our customers and our girls has been overwhelming and we are already in plans for Rude London.”
Amy launched her business when she was just 22. She described working with the girls as ‘empowering’ and added that there is a strong ‘culture of sisterhood’ in Rude.

Sharing about how it is like to work in Rude, one of the dancers, Enya, said: “I’ve worked in other clubs previous to my time here at Rude and it doesn’t closely compare.
“In an industry that has a reputation for leaving dancers feeling trapped and unsure of the future, it is so refreshing to work in an environment where we are encouraged and supported, with every ambition and optimism for what our futures hold.
“There are massive preconceptions surrounding dancers and stripping as an industry – that we’re here against our will, surrounded by seedy old men, and made to work in poor and uncomfortable conditions, which couldn’t be further from the reality.
“I genuinely look forward to coming into work where I am surrounded by supportive and kind hearted people, in a beautiful club which, as a result, attracts an affable and respectful clientele.
“I am so fortunate to be a part of a club that I am proud to say I’m involved with and where I truly feel completely at home.”
