London’s longest running strip pub the Queen Anne in Vauxhall which has been in business for over 50 years celebrated the 30th year with the same landlady Denise D’Courtenay and a refurb including a new smoking area with a party on the 29th of September. Talking of anniversaries the Secrets Hammersmith club celebrated it’s 10th on September 12th.
Caffrey’s Sports Bar in Greenwich is appealing against the council verdict that they needed planning permission to introduce dancers. A hearing will take place in October. A new scheme in Soho is the automatic sending of text messages to people walking by some of the illegal clip joints warning them not to go in. Rap “star” {I’d never heard of him} Kayne West made an impression during a visit to “Stringfellow’s” by being very tight fisted.
Talking of celebs and strip bars England cricket captain Paul Collingwood was spotted in “Maverick’s” in Cape town during the World 20/20 and Sting in “Relax” in Hamburg during the Police comeback tour, and Enrique Iglesias at Sophisticats in London. The “Mass” club in Brixton Hill held an event featuring numerous UK porn stars like Cathy Berry and ex strip –magazine coverdancer Rebecca Jessop on the 14th of September. A new club called “ Hush Hush” in Wembley is recruiting girls for an opening soon. The boom in strip venues in Kent continues where the Harp Inn in East Peckham {where the Darling Buds of May was filmed} has now started having dancers supplied by Entertease on 4 days a week.
Spearmint’s “Rouge” club in Brighton the town’s 4th opened on the 14th of September. The “Rude” club of Liverpool has apparently been renamed “Dreamers”. A 3rd venue called the “Koola Bar” in Newquay has got a license for topless dancers though the 2 established clubs are full nude. A wine bar called “Essence” in Walsall has started regular Thursday night lap dancing shows.
I hear a former Sports Bar in Dunfirmline is to start up striptease nights, the first in that town. The Caged Asylum rock/lap dance nights in Manchester are now going all night. The first non Ladhar owned club in Newcastle {4th in total}the “Officers Deck” opens early in October and already has a web site . A 2nd club in Portsmouth called “Heaven Sent” has apparently opened. I understand the “ Temptations T2” club in Plymouth is opening a 2nd club in Bristol in November.
The “Office” Morecombe’s only club closed late in August. Also closed {temporarily it seems} is Claudia’s {right}in Blackpool which has had it’s license suspended for employing an under aged girl. Oxford’s only venue “Baby Bar” is giving up it’s lap dancing nights after a refurb. The license application for “Jumpin Jacks” in Bournemouth reported in August’s column has been withdrawn. The new Conservative council there is making nonsensical noises about objecting to any clubs sited near Church’s etc.
The owner of Edinburgh’s “Fantasy Palace” has applied for permission to convert it into flats. The proposed first club in Durham called “The Loft” is going to court in December with local residents objecting to it’s current license and the club itself applying to have restrictions on the license removed. A dancer at Norwich club “Devil’s Advocate” has accused a local policeman of raping her after the club closed.
Burlesque has finally hit repressed Belfast with regular Sunday night shows at the Ollie club in the 5 star Merchant Hotel coming from the Tassel club in Dublin. A new erotic exhibition hits the Birmingham National Indoor Arena on the 5th to 7th of October called the “Adults only show”, details lets hope this one is better than Erotica. Burnley’s only club Tabu now has a web sit. The Adonis male strip cabaret shows in places like Blackpool, London, Brighton etc now have a web site www.AdonisCabaret.co.uk .
