The new licensing system in the UK involving 24 hour pub opening

The new licensing system in the UK involving 24 hour pub opening, a single license, and a move from the magistrate’s court to local authority licensing is starting to be slowly introduced. A first step will happen during this month which involves the government centrally setting the license fee that can be charged which could well mean substantial reductions in license costs for many clubs in Central London.

The 6th annual “Miss Shoreditch” competition resulted in a record poll and a clear win for Kat who works at the White Horse, Shoreditch and also for the Entertease agency. A close runner up was Vida who works at the Platinum Bar and for Promises, 3rd was former Browns star Elouise.

After many years as London’s only topless only place I hear that Charlie Browns of Wood Green finally applied for a full nude license. It got turned down and for some reason Haringey council seem to have “ done a Glasgow” and also insisted that the only other club in the borough Expose closes as well. No doubt it will be overturned if it ever goes to court.

Also I understand that Alan Whitehead { ex FYEO, Secrets, Majingos etc} has got a PEL to open a male only strip bar in Tower Hamlets close to the Tower of London and adjacent to the City. Maybe this is the start of a new trend as LA Confidential of Ealing is to start have male dancers on Wednesday nights.

Talking of Majingos it re opens at the end of February after a major refurbishment which has doubled the size of the club. It is expected that FYEO’s Southampton club will also open by the end of the month and there is news of a 3rd club in the city {Tusk being the other} opening near the Polar Bar to be called Poletrix.

Leicester’s Blue X club has come out of administration and is set to finally re-open on February 4th . Also in Leicester there is a rumour that the Stiletto’s club is to move to larger premises in the old Oxygen club opposite the brand new Avairy club

.

News of the first club in Rugby to be called “ Club Midas “ in the old Pig and Truffle pub on Church St. It’s set to open in March 7 days a week. A 2nd club in Huddersfield to be called “Centrefolds” now has a license and should also open by the end of March. A 3rd club is also to open in Stoke on Trent at the Manhattan bar in Hanley. Another new place is called ” The Venue” in Long Eaton near Nottingham which has started having dancers on Thursday evening.

News of a new web site on the general London strip scenewww.londonstrip.co.uk , it has an excellent section on the official attitude of London boroughs to strip venues . The long established Venus club also has a new site www.venustabledancing.co.uk that is actually quite good now.

Bristol’s famous Central Chambers club has been running pole dancing lessons for quite a while now and it has now vastly increased the range of lessons it offers, see http://www.central-chambers.co.uk/poleschool/index.htm for details. The annual Vamps of Weston Super Mare pole dancing competition had to be cancelled due to lack of entries see www.vamps-uk.com .

Late in January McLaren F1 star Kimi Raikkonen visited the FYEO Mayfair club and after spending £5,000 with 2 friends he started doing his own strip during a private dance. Having got his willy out he was thrown out of the club and news rapidly reached the tabloids which given McLaren’s obsessively clean image must have been rather embarrassing !

News of an interesting looking private members club opening in March in St Swithens Rd, Bournemouth called the Fantasy Palace { see www.fantasypalaceuk.com } which features comedy and at table draft lager as well as girls ! The Medusa club in Birmingham which caused controversy with it’s stripping Santa poster in December is apparently considering a full frontal nude one to follow up thereby attracting more flack from the local council.

Councillors have complained also about the Rocket club’s pretty innocent looking flyer {below}. The increase in advertising and offers of free entrance etc in Birmingham is probably an indication of how competitive the market it there at the moment with the recent rash of new club openings.

The proposed Evolution club in Barrow has had it’s attempt to open in the former Bluebird club in Holker St turned down by the council. It’s first attempt to open failed when the original premises proved to be too expensive to convert.

I hear the ex Manager of Demon in Birmingham is looking to open a new club in Bromley, Kent. American dancer Melody Manson is returning to the US in February and reportedly leaving the UK strip scene for good.
