Rembrandts has stirred up lots of opposition

It seems that Gerard Simi’s new club “Rembrandts” which has stirred up lots of opposition led by the hero of the Routemaster/Bendy Bus fiasco Ken Livingstone may not now open as a strip venue as the landlord { Railtrack or whatever it is called now} now says it is against the terms of the lease. It opened though as a “ Piano Bar” in the middle of July.

The first club in the UK FYEO Park Royal changed hands a few months ago and was re-launched as .An application to open a new club in an old pub at 20, Star Lane, Canning Town in East London has stirred up the usual opposition. A further application to open a club called the “Bureau” in Stratford has been passed though one to open the former Manor House pub in Green Lanes has been turned down by Hackney council. An application to open a club called Blues in Peckham High St has been made and it looks like there could be a new strip pub called Caffrey’s Sports Bar in Trafalgar Rd , Greenwich . It seems also that the Lunar Attic in Stratford has reverted to being a normal nightclub. I understand the “Speed the Plough” pub in Barton le Clay {which has a very chequered history to put it mildly} is now likely to re-open as a full time strip venue in the near future.
Soho’s Candy bar { a lesbian bar which regularly features female strippers,  has changed hands and become part of the Soho Clubs and Bars group alongside the old Revuebar which is now a gay bar called Too2much. I understand the format will remain as before.
England’s burlesque superstar Immodest Blaize appeared at the Port Eliot Literary Festival near Plymouth performing 2 of her routines.

Manchester’s new “Boutique club” {the first full nude one with a late licence} now has a web site  . The “Rude” club in Liverpool has been refurbed and is apparently to revert back to it’s original name “Blue Leopard” as it remains part of the Hull based Blue Box Leisure group.

One of the few reasonably sized places in the UK still without a strip club is the historic town of York. This though is about to change with a club called “The Room” putting on regular striptease nights and the council saying that other applications are in the offing. The ancient town of Banbury is also to get it’s first club called “Cassenpiera” in Broad St, it has a licence and expects to open in September. The former Theatre Royal in Halifax{ right} was subject to an application to open that town’s 2nd lap dancing club, to be called “Platinum” but it was turned down on spurious disturbance grounds.

The first Halifax club La Salsa now has a 4am license. Get all contact info for this club here: https://stripclubguide.com/place/club-la-salsa/

The on again/off again proposed Spearmint Rhino club in Norwich is apparently finally on now and should open in Dove Street in September. The Wiggle restaurant/lap dancing bar opened as { see www.wiggle-bar.co.uk}planned in Bournemouth but seems to have taken local bigots by surprise by featuring nude dancers, they obviously don’t read this column ! Heaven in Newmarket now has a web site. Glasgow’s Truffle club has gained permission to expand into the upstairs part and move into more of a cabaret format. Heat Coventry’s only club was visited by the police and given a clean bill of health after a complaint by a girl on a pole dancing course there. The club now has a web site

Talking of Coventry the topless car wash based there now has a web site,  which suggests several other branches may soon open. An unconnected but similar sounding operation has also been started in Skegness.

The first trade only exhibition for the UK adult industry was held at the NEC at the end of July see www.etoshow.com

Stringfellow’s Dublin club which opened only in February has closed down. It was basically a franchise type operation and the Irish operator has gone out of business, Peter Stringfellow has said that the next operator of the site may want to retain the franchise. The club had been targeted by various protestors since it opened.
