The idiot new lap dancing laws have gone through the House of Lords for the 2nd time and have retained most of the damaging clauses and will come into force early in the new year. The effect of them will depend on how local authorities decide to enforce them plus what happens when the inevitable legal challenges occur.Various councils like Birmingham and York are already promising a “clampdown” once this new nonsense becomes law. The recent boom in club opening has continued despite the looming uncertainty of the new laws going through parliament, rather like 2004 before the law changed last time. For some reason strip clubs south of the Thames are quite rare but a new one has just opened has the unusual name of “Max 3 Stockers” in Vauxhall {mentioned in a previous column as applying for a license}, it’s open Thursday, Friday, Saturday from 5pm to 5am A new strip pub called the “De Burgh Arms” in West Drayton has started having sessions over the weekends. Another is the “Q Bar” in Aldershot which started having girls on Tuesday to Friday evenings in November supplied by the Angels Exotic agency. A 3rd club opened in Prince of Wales Rd, Norwich on November 12th called “Lace” see www.lacenorwich.com . https://stripclubguide.com/place/lace/ The former British Legion in Newport, Isle of White has applied to be converted into a lap dance club called “Phoenix”, that would be the first full time club on the island though some temporary shows have taken place during Cowes week. The “Angels” club in West Brom {which still seems to be up for sale} opened a 2nd branch in Leicester {4th club in the town} in November. A pub in Oxford called the “Thirst Lodge” has applied to start lap and pole dancing nights, it would be the first place in the famous university town since the “Baby Bar” closed in 2007. The “Church” Sunday lunchtime party which regularly involves striptease {right} shows is moving from the Camden location it has been at for the last 6 years to a new venue in Clapham in January. “ Claudia’s” bar in Blackpool has lost it’s final appeal and closed after problems with the council over an under aged girl employed last year. The council there regards it as a triumph that while there were 10 clubs in the town 2 years ago now there are now only a couple left but I’d say that is more of a reflection of how run down the resort has become. The Fairhaven Hotel there was recently prosecuted for running a private male strip show in it’s bar. The Capricorn club , a private members hostess club of over 40 years standing was raided by Police and closed down at the end of November. Tyke |
