Government seem to be set on a push to review the licensing of lapdance/strip clubs

The big news this month for the clubs of the UK seems to be that the forces of prudery in the Government seem to be set on a push to review {that’s spin for make life more difficult} the licensing of lapdance/strip clubs supported by various government funded pressure groups of feminist Guardian hacks. A report by one of them called Fawcett has called for an end to corporate entertaining in lap dance clubs on the truly bizarre grounds that it reinforces male pay differentials. Brighton Labour MP Celia Barlow is trying to form a pressure group to encourage licensing minister Gerry Sutcliffe’s review { see last months gossip} to come to the right conclusions, her web site.

Another group called Object has produced a report {the quality of which can be expected to be very low as Bindel is involved} and are lobbying for sex encounter licenses.Possibly as a response to the above the industry has formed a trade body called the Lap Dance Association {LDA} to be chaired by Simon Warr of Spearmint.

Far more interesting news however is that my good friend Ellouise {formerly modelled as Ali and a noted beauty left} has written a memoir based on her ten years as a stripper at places like Stringfellow’s, Browns, and the White Horse. It’s the first mass market paper back of its kind and tipped to be the summer’s best seller! It’s to be called “Girl In High Heels – intimate confessions of a London stripper” and is to be released on the 29th of May worldwide, there is even a web site www.girlinhighheels.co.uk .

The number of new clubs opening continues unabated. I understand another new club called “Blue Eyes” is opening near Wembley though I have no details as yet. The Green Gate in Plaistow mentioned in March’s column has re-opened as an Entertease venue after some initial problems. Promises also has 2 new venues to the East of London, Porkies Café Bar in Rainham, Essex {Friday afternoon} and Macs Bar, Basildon {Tuesday and Thursday evening}.
Cas Carrington of Medusa fame has applied to open her 3rd club in Leamington Spa, the 2nd club in that town. A new Polish lap dancing club called Explosion in West Bromwich has just got a license and should open in the next few weeks, makes a change from all the plumbers! The new Purple Door in Newcastle {the chains 4th club right} opposite Central Station has applied to introduce shower dances, the chain now has a web sit .

The long awaited AEG group Direktors club in central Manchester is expected to open this month. The Millionayr Casino in Ayr is making another attempt to introduce pole dancing into it’s offering despite council opposition. Vimac Leisure is appealing the bizarre court decision to stop the license granted to the Loft club in Durham.

A new club to me is Churchills in Leeds which seems to combine strip with a sauna and steam room see . The Q club in Exmouth {mentioned in April’s gossip} has now obtained a license despite some opposition from locals, it’s set to open in July. It’s connected managerially to the successful Tiffany’s club in Exeter.

The former Pussycats, Hove site in Brighton has closed and the sister club of Top Totty has been renamed Pussycats, Brighton leaving the town with 3 clubs currently operating. Out west the Bridport Palace has started having regular Burlesque cabaret nights.

Model and dancer Roxie Wild now has a web site . April also saw the International Festival of Burlesque in London. The Mayor of Ealing Hazel Ware paid a visit to the LA Confidential club in April complete with ceremonial robes, apparently she was quite impressed. A club called Dillingers in Kimberley, Derbyshire has started regular male strip nights.

The Bar a Cuda Londonderry’s only strip venue is up for sale. The hearing on Satchmo’s in Stoke Newington is to be held on May 6th. A former Decective called Michael Agustus was convicted of stealing £9,370 in cash from Leeds club operator Blue Box Leisure but only received a suspended sentence. Burlesque dancer Gypsy Charms is close to completing a PHD on stripping. The Buffalo Lounge in Leeds now has a good web site and is I understand considering expansion into Harrogate and Huddersfield.
