White Horse High Wycombe which currently has girls on every lunchtime

I understand the White Horse High Wycombe which currently has girls on every lunchtime but only Wednesday evenings with live music most nights is looking to open up on more evenings after a series of successful one off Saturday nights in June and July. On the August bank holiday weekend it is having 2 full day shows.

More news on the proposed new Wardour Street, London “Stringfellow’s Soho”club announced in last months column. It is still dependent on getting the right licences but I understand it’s large at 12,500 sq ft and Peter Stringfellow plans to spend over £3m on converting it to a unique and innovative table dancing club using top young designers which he expects will take London by storm. If all goes according to plan it should be open early in 2006.

Another long time popular Shoreditch regular Louise { known as “film producer” due to her involvement in independent cinema} who was on the E4 documentary a

worked for Entertease, Sunset Strip, and at the WH Shoreditch has retired. Her last appearence is to be at the Bulldog Bash at Long Marston drag strip in August. Rather better news is that Varona tells me she will be working at the WH Shoreditch until December.

The “ Miss Pole Dance UK” final held at the Hunny Club, Brighton in front of a packed audience of 700 was won by Elena Gibson who is a pole dance instructor at the London based Pole People. The event organised by Pole Passion see: www.polepassion.com will be repeated in 2006 and they are looking for a larger venue to hold the final in.

Browns and Griffin regular and former strip magazine coverdancer Niki appeared on the top comedian Frank Skinner TV show in July and also now has her own modelling web site www.nikismith.net

The trade magazine” Showgirls” has a new web site www.e-showgirls.comand is looking to do further printed versions in the future. I hear on the grapevine that competition for taking FYEO Mayfair off the administrators is likely is now quite fierce which seems odd given that it had been openly on the market for 18 months or more. US giant DeJaVu is involved plus another overseas group and a London bar operator who has not had a lap dance club before. Taking of US giants I understand that after a couple of years of retrenchment in the UK Spearmint Rhino are looking to open more clubs.

The posh Lakenheath Country Club {near the large US Airforce base in Cambridgeshire} is starting having striptease nights on Thursday. The very long awaited Evolution club in Barrow {which first featured in this column in September 2004 !} has it’ application to open in the old Bluebird club next door to the football ground turned down by the council despite no objections from the Police and a recommendation for approval by the Planning department.

It will no doubt go ahead eventually after the usual wasteful appeals procedure. News of a new Promises strip pub the Wheatsheaf in Bishop’s Cote Rd in Luton which now has girls on Friday night 5pm to 8pm. A new club is to be opened in Manchester though as yet the name and exact format are not clear. I understand that Gloucester which currently only has the Crackers Saturday afternoon shows is to get it’s first full time club called Minx’s opening in August. I also here that a new club is set to open in New Parliament St Leicester, no details as yet.

The Immodesty Blaize Burlesque show at the Arts theatre in the west end got rather mixed reviews but clearly has been a success with the public resulting in a 6 week extension to the run until the end of July being announced.

Talking of Burlesque shows the Whoopee Club did a 1 off performance at the Hackney Empire on July 26th. I understand that the film “ Mrs Henderson Entertains “ about the Windmill in the 1930s and staring Judi Dench first mentioned in the November 2004 column is now set to be released in December.

The former Gentleman’s club in Newport south Wales is up on the market. Talking of the Gentleman’s club the people involved are rumoured to be close to finally opening a club in Bristol called the “ Velvet Lounge”.

The appeal by Charlie Browns of Haringey against the arbitrary closure by the local council was unusually turned down by the courts so it will stay shut.
