A considerable number of new strip clubs are still opening and several further new applications have been made. Whether those just making applications get affected by the new law remains to be seen, I suspect it will vary from council to council.
I hope all the regular readers had a good Christmas and have a prosperous new year.
While the new legislation is working it’s way through the system, and despite several councils seemingly champing at the bit to close clubs down or at least make profitable operation more difficult,
The “ Forbidden” club in Dewsbury has been granted a license and opened just in time for Christmas despite opposition from the local MP. The “Thirst Lounge” {left} in Oxford {mentioned last month} also obtained a license despite local opposition and expects to open early in the new year as the cities only club. The “Fantasy Lounge” in Swansea {sister to the one in Cardiff which seems to be up for sale} has also obtained a license and expects to open in the spring. “Vienna’s” in Grantham has applied for a license and hopes to open in the new year.
The “De Burgh Arms”in West Drayton mentioned in last month’s column {which incidentally featured in the famous 1950s film Genevieve about the London Brighton run even though it’s miles off the actual route ! }
as starting odd strip sessions has now applied for a license to operate 7 days a week.
The old swingers Soho Beach Club on Kilburn High Rd mentioned previously has formally applied for a lap dancing license. Another North London application is by the comedy club “ Club Imperial” on Seven Sisters Rd which has applied to add lap dancing on certain nights. Another new club called “ Peaches” has apparently opened in Bournemouth as has one called “ Secrets” in Bridgend.
“Divas” club in Newquay has had it’s license revoked by the local council after a series of run ins over the last year or so, I’d expect some sort of appeal though with the new Harperson inspired laws coming in soon it may be doomed soon anyway.“Heaven” Pontefract’s only club has had to close after planning permission problems though it had a license and the application to open a 2nd club in the Old Market area of Bristol has been rejected. The “Diamonds” club in Stourbridge has shut.
A new club called the “Proud Cabaret” {left} which features burlesque style striptease has opened in Mark Lane, EC3 .
A new troupe of 4 well known glamour models who will be touring UK clubs putting on feature shows are the Glamazons {right}, booking information.
Leeds University has created quite a bit of publicity by recruiting a lap dancing research officer for a major project on the industry they are undertaking.
