Veteran rockers Sting and David Bowie have reportedly invested in the new Ivan Kane’s “Forty Deuce” Burlesque strip club in New York. The chain which has clubs in Los Angelis and Las Vegas is also rumoured to be looking for a London venue.
Talking of Central London the venerable Sunset Strip club is now open until 1am every night.Actually though you would think London already has more than enough clubs a great deal of activity is currently going on in the capital. The new 14,000 sq ft “ For Your Eyes Only” club near Finsbury Sq close to the City has now got a license and expects to open early next year. It’s part of a major redevelopment of the old Singer head office including a Travelodge and a 24 hour bar and grill.
Gerard Simi’s new “Club Ooops” in Alie St near Aldgate mentioned in May’s column actually starts having dancers on July 2nd. Secrets are to open a 6th club at an as yet unnamed location and further as yet unnamed clubs in Mayfair and Wembley are currently recruiting staff for an opening this summer.
On the strip pub front the “Royal Standard” pub in Woolwich {operated by the ex landlord of the now closed California} has now started having striptease Monday to Saturday. Another new strip pub is the “Champagne bar“ in Charlton which is apparently not as posh as it sounds !
The 8th series of C4 Big Brother features Charley who apparently used to work at Stringfellow’s, Secrets, and Spearmint Rhino {obviously likes the letter S !}.
The flood of new club openings across the rest of the county are also continuing although many existing clubs are already reporting a drop off in business. As well as the new London club FYEO is opening a club in Cardiff on July 13th . A new club is opening in posh Windsor {maybe it will keep Prince Harry out of Spearmint !} called “ Pink” in Oxford Rd East.
Another new club {the only 1 in town now Sirens has closed} is “Minx Gentleman’s club” opening in Sunderland late in July. A pub called the ‘Elephant and Castle’ in Great Yarmouth has just got a license for striptease though it’s exact intentions are not clear at this stage. A correction to last month’s column “Rouge” Carlisle’s first club opened in June and it’s part of a nightclub complex called Terminal 1 so it will be the town’s only club for the moment anyway.
The “Ashford Club” see www.theashfordclub.co.uk in Kent now has lap dancing on Friday and Saturday nights. An application to open a 4th club in Newcastle has been made at the former Navy Bar in Mosley St. “Red Velvet” Consett’s first club opens on July 27th and it’s rumoured that London chain Secrets are opening a new club in Central Birmingham {I make that 10 now plus others in Dudley, Wolverhampton etc} their first club outside the capital.
Talking of Birmingham the old Spearmint Rhino Extreme club has now re-opened as “Rouge Gentleman’s Club”. I understand a 2nd as yet unnamed club may soon be opening in Bradford . A first full time club in Kettering called Cleopatra’s opened late in June

Rugby’s only current venue “Pink Gentlemen’s club” in Gas Street has had it’s license suspended for 2 months after a Police operation found that some rules were being breached , the owner though is appealing. “Bohemia” in York is applying for a 4am license and the new Red Leopard in Princess St, Manchester is facing opposition from the gay community in it’s license application. A man was murdered inside Bentley’s club in Leicester early in June.
Southampton’s “Tusk” club has started full nude dancing in a separate area called the Love Lounge. Cheltenham’s only club the “Blue Rooms” now has a web site. The lap dance nights at Harpers club in Guildford are now called “The Lions Den” and have a separate web site
Former top London dancer and model Sam Kirli has completely updated her web site regarding her pole dance/burlesque school . Another new Burlesque site to me anyway iswww.ministryofburlesque.com . Demures club in Cardiff now has a web site as has Cobra in Wolverhampton . A massive advert in a field on the flight path of Gatwick Airport for the new web site has created something of a stir locally and has resulted in a £2,500 fine .
Former “ Puss in Boots” boss David West is not content at just suing the Beckham’s but is also taking the government to the court of Human Rights over the smoking ban and the QC he is using is none other than Cherie Blair! Ex London private party stripper Melissa Walker was found guilty of stabbing her boyfriend after a row about cocaine and sentenced to 2 and a half years in jail. In Leicester 2 Firemen were sacked and 1 disciplined after a video of a strip show in the Central Fire Station was spotted on Yourtube.
