More and more councils are declaring their hand on the idiot Harperson law that is being introduced. Most London boroughs like Camden and Islington seem to be saying that they will grant the new licenses to existing clubs but not to any further ones. A couple like Haringey {which has no strip venues anyway} and Hackney {which does} are talking of an outright ban, some like Fulham and Hammersmith {on the back of a “public consultation” that got the grand total of 59 responses in a borough with over 165,000 people showing what a burning issue this is to most people} seem to be trying to price out the existing clubs {and sex shops} by setting a license fee of £16,688.I have not heard yet of any council outside London trying to impose a zero limit though a fair few have talked about restricting the numbers one way or another, in Birmingham for example the council was split over whether to restrict numbers and has now decided against an overall cap but it does want one for certain areas of the city eg Broad Street. The reality should emerge from all this pointless guff in the early summer of next year when the real applications start being made though the first clubs to actually close as a result will probably not now be until early 2012.
A Facebook page called “Save Hackney’s strip venues” has been set up to support places like Browns https://stripclubguide.com/place/browns-shoreditch/and the White Horse https://stripclubguide.com/place/the-white-horse/ against the local council www.facebook.com As part of the joke “consultation “ process a meeting with those involved in the industry locally was arranged for the 29th of November but only 1 councillor {out of 57} actually turned up and he was under legal instruction not to debate, comment, or explain. Apparently it’s important that they must not be influenced by the truth in the strange Stalinist world of Hackney council. Both the Seventh Heaven club in Kings Lynn and the Honey club in Solihull https://stripclubguide.com/place/honeyclub/ which only opened last year are applying for late night licenses. The “Bedford Arms” in Hitchin has started Sunday afternoon strip shows. The “Mist” club in Hounslow mentioned in last month’s column opened on November the 19th amid some rather belated local opposition. Despite all the gloom and doom in the economy generally Spearmint have reported that their very long established Hagley Road, Birmingham club is doing 30% more business this year than last. At the Crown at Knaphill {which is now apparently closed} one of the strippers featured there in 2009 Holly Jasual {right} was found not guilty of attacking the landlord David O Brien and his wife with her stiletto heal while naked after a argument after her set. Nadine Quashie lost her case for unfair dismissal against Stringfellow’s as mentioned in last month’s column on the grounds that she was self employed as the club always maintained. She is talking about “fighting on”, wonder if she is perchance on legal aid. It seems that a woman was raped actually at the “Diamonds and Pearls “club in Henley late in October, I have not got the full details as yet but a man has been charged so it looks like it will come to court during December. Stunning strip magazine Coverdancer and top model Tania Amazon {left} is now also available as a club DJ, see her new for booking info . Middlesbrough club “ Secrets” Find all Secrets clubs here: https://stripclubguide.com/?s=Secrets&l=&c=&radius=&days=&price=¢er= has apparently lost it’s license {under the old system note !} with the council after Police checked CCTV footage and found that private dancing was a bit too close. The “De Burgh Arms” in West Drayton’s brief unlicensed foray into striptease has ended with a suspension of the {old style} license and heavy fines. The former “Direktors” club in Leeds is to be auctioned off on December 9th. |
