A new storm has arisen because Jobcentres now carry adverts for strippers! Apparently in a judgement arising out of the Spearmint Rhino VAT ruling of last year it has been decided that dancers themselves will be liable for the VAT on dances. Of course to do this they will have to register as earning above the VAT threshold of £67k a year, declare all the cash they receive, and fill in loads of paperwork! Wonder how many will ?
The “storm in a tea cup” furore about lap dancing clubs { which has quoted more inaccurate facts than in an MP’s expense claim} continues with various deadbeat Labour MPs set on introducing a private members bill.
The US Hooters chain is apparently planning to open over 40 restaurants in the UK which feature scantily clad waitresses, bikini parades etc over the next 5 years. Currently there is only 1 in Nottingham, here is the web sitewww.hooters-uk.com .
I understand that Commercial Road, Spitalfields club The Edge may be starting having lap dance nights, though a similar rumour about the same site 3 or 4 years ago never actually led to anything. Another new Promises strip pub is the Ship and Shovel in Ripple Rd, Barking on Monday and Thursday evenings. The attempt to introduce striptease to Satchmo’s in Stoke Newington was rejected by the council early in May and I understand the pub has decided not to appeal.
Sunday Sport model Linsey Dawn Mackensie appeared at the Secrets Swiss Cottage and Euston clubs during May, she used to work at Metropolis several years ago it’s not clear if this marks a return to live stripping.
The Shine club in Bognor Regis has applied to start regular topless dancing nights. It seems that Minnesota Jaxs in Eastborne has started regular strip nights under the name Risky’s. The Queen Vic gay bar in Newquay has also applied for a license for striptease though it’s not clear as yet whether this will be for men or women. A club called the Glass House in Ely, Cambridgeshire has also started having regular strip nights.
Urban Tiger in Northampton is one of the few venues in that town to be granted a 5* hygiene certificate for it’s kitchens. A mother in Arnold Nottingham apparently ordered his son a Gorillagram at his school on his birthday but the lucky lad and his classmates got a stripping policewoman instead.
Talking of stripograms the appeal by the Police to convict Stuart Kennedy of Aberdeen of carrying an offensive weapon {prop Police truncheon} was thrown out a 2nd time in court. Apparently Kennedy has made 17 court appearances, been arrested 4 times and spent 41 hours in custody over this ridiculous fiasco. Not content with this Grampian Police arrested him again a couple of weeks later this time dressed in army gear! Good job Aberdeen is so crime free the Police there have nothing better to do.
Long established Birmingham club Legs 11 has abandoned it’s attempts to open a 2nd branch in Sneinton Market, Nottingham. The “After Dark “ club in Alton, Hampshire mentioned in last December’s gossip has abandoned lap dancing nights. Smile Milton Keynes only club has changed hands and is now called Phoenix Gentleman’s Club. Danica { now has a web site.
A lawyer called Paul Saffron has been prosecuted for stealing £200k from his firm Radcliffes Le Brasseur apparently to spend on strippers. Chelsea camp followers were spotted in the Moscow strip bar 911 {now reopened after the fire}during the recent Champions league final trip.
