” Miss Pole Position” open to all UK dancers.

Out in Swaffingham market place in Norfolk the sign below appeared causing considerable local interest, it´s turned out to be a spoof. The owner of Woolwich´s Mermaid club Turkish Muslim Mehmet Ali Deniz has said that although he runs a lap dancing club he regards the industry as degrading to women and he would like the government to close all clubs down. How this will help his upcoming license renewal application remains to be seen !

The national finals of the “Pole Idol” competition were held in Liberty´s Club, Birmingham on October 17th . Another new club nearby in West Bromwich called Angels is currently recruiting girls and expects to open soon. That´s the 2nd club in West Brom itself and the 14th by my current count in the West Midlands.

Despite Glasgow council´s ridiculous Bindel report FYEO have succeeded in getting a license for a new club in the old Mas nightclub, this will be their 7th club nationwide and first in Scotland. Apparently £1m will be spent in refurbishment with the aim to get it open as soon as possible. The crackpot council there though is talking about appealing the decision of it´s own licensing committee! What a fine use of public money.

News of a new Entertease strip pub, the Blue Heart {formerly White Horse}in High Street, Southall, Middlesex opening up early in October. The unnamed new club in Basildon mentioned in the column a few months ago has emerged as being the Katz club in Time Square which also opened during the month. There is now a rumour of a new as yet unnamed club opening in the Reading area soon plus one of a first club in the seaside resort of Rhyl, North Wales. The established club Kudos in Ashford Kent now has table dancing Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday evenings and another new { to me} club in Kent has emerged called the Liquid Lounge in Maidstone. An interesting new club is opening in Aberdeen called Darc which will feature lap dancing but also a range of other performance arts is due to open in November. Also new to me but apparently it´s been open for some time is the Sirens club in Sunderland.

Pole dancing in the UK continues to become more and more mainstream and I hear that central London bar called the South Pacific {see www.southlondonpacific.com } has started having regular pole dancing nights complete with topless waitresses. A form of pole dancing of Indian origin also featured on top BBC children´s programme Blue Peter.

I have heard an unconfirmed story that the Blue X one of the 4 clubs in Leicester has gone out of business. Senoritas the first Nottingham club with a PEL had applied to have it´s hours extended but I´d anticipate opposition from Nottingham council which vies with Glasgow and Manchester as the most brain dead in the country.
