Spice girls have been training to include Pole Dancing in the show

It has been widely reported that the Spice girls have been training to include Pole Dancing in the show of their comeback tour. Apparently they were taught at the old Revuebar in Soho, I’m not sure by whom. I bumped into former Strip-magazine interviewee Max Makrinakis last week and he is now running the “Rembrandts” club in central Leeds.
An interesting new Angels’ Exotic riverside strip pub called the “Rowbarge”  in Woking Rd, Guildford started having girls in November. Dawn of Angels has been widely reported as saying that the smoking ban in pubs has caused an upsurge in interest in pubs wanting to put on strippers and an opinion poll in the Morning Advertiser suggests that more than half of pub landlords would now consider this.

The proposed conversion of the Archway Tavern in North London {mentioned last month} to a strip venue has for some reason stirred up a hornet’s nest of local opposition. It turns out the owners are 2 local Asian GPs {one a woman, still now they don’t have to provide an out of hours service they must have time on their hands !} and pictures of their surgery have appeared in the local press to put pressure on them.

An application to turn part of the Wandsworth Theatre {next door to the town hall} into a lap dancing club called “Inigma” has been made. The long running saga of “Caffrey’s Sports Bar” in Greenwich seems to have been ended after the bar finally {and inevitably}won it’s appeal against the council’s ban based on bogus planning constraints which was imposed hours before lap dancing was due to start as long ago as November 2006. Apart from delaying things for over a year and wasting public money it’s not clear what the council has achieved. A new club called “Studio 4” has opened in Great Queen St, Holborn Monday to Friday only currently . Another new London club is “The Zone” Neasden which started having dancers on 7 days a week in November and is partly supplied by Entertease. The opening of the “Pleasure Garden” in Vauxhall mentioned in last month’s gossip was delayed but should have taken place on the 30th November. Also delayed is the massive new FYEO City Rd club which is now expected to open early in the new year.
A new club opened in Alton, Hampshire in October connected to another rather pretty pub called the Windmill {left} named “After Dark” . It’s open Thursday to Saturday. A pool hall in sleepy Eastbourne called “Minnesota Jax” has applied to become the town’s first full nude venue, apparently it’s been having topless dancing on Saturday nights since 2006. A new “Private Eyes” club {the 4th in that Scottish chain having opened a 2nd club in Aberdeen quite recently}has opened in East Port, Dunfermline during the month, it’s emerged that ever vigilant local councillors approved it without knowing what it was ! The Chesterfield venue mentioned in last month’s gossip has now got a license, it’s to be called “Basque” see  and opened late in November. Mansfield’s first club “The Penthouse” is now open Thursday to Saturday. The investors who recently opened the “Officers Deck” in Newcastle has applied for a license for lap dancing at a large new venue near the Corn Exchange in Leeds though it’s not clear if they actually intend to start dancing once they open yet.
The “Midnight’s” club  in Wellington, Shropshire mentioned in September’s column has given up on it’s regular lap dancing nights due to a lack of custom though it is still going to have occasional one off sessions.
Adverts for striptease jobs have started appearing in job centres in Wales much to the ire of local prudes. An interesting new  Burlesque news site . A mother wanted to give her son a surprise at school in Arnold, Nottingham on his 16th birthday but the agency sent a Policewoman strip-o-gram into the classroom much to the alarm of the teacher! The very lovely Varona of Brown’s  has a new music video out, it can be seen on Youtube www.youtube.com/watch?v=8UCGuWxjZxc .
Apparently Whitley Bay now has an Ambulance converted into a mobile lap dancing club complete with pole which offers rides around the town. The lesbian pole dancing Candy Bar in Soho now has a web sitewww.candybarsoho.com , as has Cleopatra’s in Kettering
The winner of Miss Pole Dance UK for 2007 held in Brighton was Sally Ann Giles of Derby, the 2008 competition to be held in London will be in October again. Burlesque superstar Dita Von Teese { right}appeared at the Erotica show in London late in November.
