In February the UK got one of it’s few medals in the Winter Olympics, a Silver, via Shelly Rudman in the skeleton bobsleigh. Shelly was only able to take part at all due to sponsorship raised in her local pub the Moonrakers of Pewsey which is one of Wiltshire’s few pole dancing venues.
London’s famous Windmill Theatre, the first nude venue in the UK in the 1930s has been put on the market. It shut in it’s original format in 1964 but re-opened as one of London’s first lap dancing clubs in the mid 1990s. The sale is being handled by Cavendish Corporate Finance and expects to raise £5 to£10m even though the freehold of the building is actually still owned by Paul Raymond.
I understand that FYEO have sold Park Royal the UK’s oldest club and that it will be re-branded as something else very soon. Further details when I get them. Talking of FYEO Danni Minogue was filmed by the News of the World joining in a steamy pole dance with a naked dancer at their former Mayfair club now called “ Puss in Boots”.
Channel 4 have commissioned a programme on the history of lap/table dancing in the UK. Apparently a new satellite station called “ Girl Fever” has been recruiting dancers in the South East of England but not paying them !
The final of the Loaded magazine “Showgirl of the year” competition held at Spearmint TCR was won by the lovely Lolita {right} who works at the White Horse Shoreditch and the White Horse High Wycombe.
Another similar sounding competition is being held for “ Miss Showgirl 2006” finals to be held at the Hammersmith Palais . Another competition is called “Miss Pole Princess” and it’s due to have a final in the Flaunt nightclub in Bishop Stortford in March, details viawww.verticaldance.com
News of 2 more new east London clubs opening plus 2 new club nights, first is Bar 377 in Leytonstone see which features Promises girls and another called Club 25 in St James St, Walthamstow. A new operation featuring only ethnic girls called “ Chocolate Delight” now operates out of Hackney Rd club Images on Saturday night. Another lap dance night now takes place at Rascals in Ilford every Thursday.
The long running saga of Slough council and the Flags is scheduled to reach an appeal on March 10th. I suspect the totally illogical banning of striptease will be eventually overturned but the council have succeeded in closing the place for several months for no good reason. Better news is the “ Speed the Plough” pub in Barton Le Clay Bedfordshire has started having girls on Thursday and Friday nights, lets hope this effort lasts longer than the previous ones.
Businessman Peter Aldred caused a major car accident on the M4 and fled the scene to visit Spearmint Rhino , Colnbrook where “ stinking of alcohol” he bragged about getting away with it to dancer Nikki Wright who rang the police and turned him in. He has been found guilty of dangerous driving and awaits a probable jail sentence.
The impressive web site is having a gala night called “ Club Mondo” at the Cabaret club in Nottingham on March 30th to celebrate the first year of it’s operation. I understand it is to feature some of the UK’s top strippers and burlesque dancers so it should be a great night.
Football sponsorship seems to a new trend amongst lap dancing clubs with Cloud 10 acting as shirt sponsor during non league Tamworth FC’s recent cup run and Perfect 10 sponsoring Preston North End.
The Office Morecombe’s first pole dancing club will apparently now open at Easter. Coventry which got it’s first club the Red Bar in December is to have a new attraction the “ Ladies Lounge” featuring scantily clad hunks { right} at the Britannia Hotel.
After quite a saga in which multi club owner Shaun Sharam has tried to open several different venues the Midas Lounge has finally become Rugby’s first lap dancing club. A 2nd club is to open in central Doncaster called the Jockey club Gentleman’s Club. The long established Angels of Liverpool has opened a 2nd venue a private members club called Angels VIP outside the centre of the city. Club Rouge {right} Salisbury’s only strip venue is up for sale. Another new {to me anyway} club has opened in Dudley, West Midlands with the unusual name of the Bandit Queen
The vast new Stringfellow’s club in Dublin opened on February 1st and the 2nd London club in Soho is still scheduled to open in April/May time. Although Peter Stringfellow is in his 60s he is still very much on the expansion trail and is currently looking for a site for a New York club which he hopes to open later in the year. I also understand yet another new club called Kitten is opening in Dublin soon , that makes 8 clubs in the city now by my calculation.
