Changes at the Platinum Bar where a new owner {ex Spearmint} is taking over and there are stories of some alterations to it’s method of operation. I understand FYEO Mayfair has finally been sold to a UK club/bar owner called David West, a new licence application has been made so it looks like it will stay a lap dancing club but I don’t have any other details. This leaves DeJaVu still without a London club after a couple of years of effort.
The famous Trash City undressed to kill London strip pub web site is being moved to a new address www.undressedtokill.com which has more of a live message board format. Another interesting new {to me anyway}web site on the UK scene is www.ukstripclubs.com .
Sad news of another long standing strip scene regular’s retirement, it seems Russian Sam is to hang up her g string in September. Congratulations to the wonderful ex Browns Shannon {Miss Shoreditch 2004} who had a daughter early in August.
Stringfellow’s plans to open 2 large new clubs in the next few months has seen the start of a recruitment campaign for additional “ Angel’s” starting now as can be seen on the home page of this site.
The annual erotic awards competition which includes a striptease section is to be held on September 3rd, see www.eroticawards.co.uk . This years competition features Shoreditch regulars Chiqui and Imadoll.
The very long awaited “Evolution” club next to the football ground in Barrow has finally got permission to open after appealing the council’s rejection. This saga seems to have lasted longer than Wembley stadium, I understand they hope to actually open for business sometime in September. Also the Velvet Lounge in Broad Quay, Bristol finally opened at the end of July after several month’s of delays. This one opens at 11 am as a conventional bar but at 8pm the rear Burlesque Lounge features nude dancers opens, it’s licensed until 6am.
Talking of extended licenses FYEO Park Royal will have a 24 hour licence after the new rules come into force during November, it will still shut normally at 4am but this gives it the ability to stay open even later for special events. An application for a 6am licence for the Basement club in Newport has led to the head of the planning committee resigning after expressing a view before the hearing.
It may be the changes in licensing laws but this month sees news of a large number of a new clubs applying for licenses. Firstly a new club is apparently opening in Leeds {I make that the 5th} called the “Buffalo Lounge”, it’s already got a web site { www.buffalolounge.com } though not much on there as yet. A pub called Scribes based near the cathedral in Canterbury has applied to open the upstairs bar as a lap dancing club causing some consternation amongst local religious bigots!
A 2nd attempt is being made to open a club in what are currently office premises in Newmarket. An application to open the first club in Worksop, Nottinghamshire has been made for the former Envy club in Bridge Street. A further application has been made to open the first club in Sutton, Surrey in the former Iceland store. I also understand a first club may be opening soon in the centre of Coventry.
Another new Dublin club called Valentinos Gentleman’s Club opened on Eden Quay right in the centre in June unspotted by me at the time. I make that 6 now with Stringfellow’s due to open before the end of the year. The nightclub Secrets in Chatham, Kent {not related to the London chain} has just started having dancers on Monday to Thursday nights and also Friday afternoons from 1pm until 7pm. A large new club called Temptations opened in Silver Street, Bury on August 12th.
