Plans for new lapdancing club in Sheffield raises objections

Sparks of concern have been raised over Rockwave Leisure Limited application for a sexual entertainment license for a new lapdancing club called Villa Mercedes, to open in Suffolk Road, Sheffield.

new lap dancing club in SheffieldA clear ‘stay-away’ message was sent by scores of people as the venue, if granted a license, would be just a few doors down from the Leadmill and not far away from the railway station.

Over 180 objections have been sent to Sheffield Council, with just one in favour of the decision.

Amongst some of the reasons raising concerns is the fact that Rockwave Leisure has lost its license when opening a similar venue in Harrogate last year. The club was also called Villa Mercedes and had to shut down after it lost its license due to reports of physical contact with the dancers and allowing audience participation.

If the club gets a license approval it would be the second lap dancing venue in the city after nearby Spearmint Rhino.

The Leadmill, which hosts events for teenagers, has also objected, raising concerns from a child protection standpoint. The venue often has 14-plus nights with people queuing past the planned club.

Leicester Angels reopens as bellydancing club

A former lap-dancing club which was shut down by the council due to reports for touching and fondling between strippers and customers has now reopened as a belly-dancing club.

Plans for new lap dancing club in Sheffield raises objectionsLeicester Angels was refused a sexual entertainment venue license and was shut down after losing a court appeal against the verdict last month.

Today, licensing officials claim the venue situated in New Park Street, off Braunstone Gate has reopened in a different guise.

The owners of the venue KN Leisure Ltd, are rumored to have transferred its premises license to a new individual.

A council spokesperson said: “Angels doesn’t need a sexual entertainment venue licence to reopen as a belly-dancing club.

“Offences were not committed in the past that related to the premises licence, so they have kept a premises licence that allows the serving of alcohol.”

The new use of the venue is being carefully monitored claim council enforcement officers.

The former club had its license taken off after a joint police and council raid in December.
