Continuing the government attack of the lapdancing industry

Continuing the government attack of the lapdancing industry hatchet faced Harridan Harperson the High Priestess of Hypocrisy has once again called for an end to the use of lapdancing clubs for corporate entertainment in the city.

Talking of hypocrites James “ Crackpot” Coleman the anti lap dance councillor for Glasgow who wasted public money on the pathetic Bindel report and then sued his licensing committee has got into trouble for awarding the Wise group {where he is a Director} a £1m contract without declaring an interest. Also in trouble is the “2nd” Home Secretary and architect of the new sex encounter laws Jacqui Smith who has been found to have been rather “creative” in her housing allowance claims.
I hear that a long lost strip pub the “Flint Cottage” in High Wycombe tried to start up with stripping again but was turned down by the local council. Another long lost strip pub but one with permission to start up again is Bar Aquarium {left seewww.clubaquarium.co.uk } Old Street, London which used to have strippers on in the 1980s. A completely new strip pub is the “Claremont” at West Byfleet this time supplied by Angel’s Exotic which started in February, also Tuesdays only at present.
I understand that the “Kensington suite” club is appealing the turning down of it’s license application by the local council. The proposed “Diamonds and Pearls” {right} club in Henley announced that it was not going to open in the end despite gaining a license after much local opposition. However a new owner took over and it finally opened anyway on Jan 30th . Another venue that decided not to open despite gaining a license is the “Thirst Lounge” in Oxford also mentioned in last month’s column.

One that is opening is “Secrets” in the Market Place at Newbury the first venue in that town for several years

. A new club called the “Music Palace” has applied to open in Crouch End and another called the “Luna Bar” in Mexborough near Doncaster has started Sunday afternoon shows. Another new club {to me anyway} is “Players Sports Bar” in Weston Super Mare which now makes 3 clubs in that resort. I also hear that a new club called “Cream Tiger” has opened in Rugby.

There are signs though that the recession is starting to have an effect, I hear that “Tusk” in Southampton has closed. “Teasers” Bridlington’s only club which has only been opened a few months is up for sale as is “Blue Minx” in Rotherham though “Little Black Book” in Hartlepool is apparently booming. Spearmint Rhino which has owned the “Truffle club” in Glasgow for over 2 years is finally re-branding it as a Spearmint causing a bit of a stir amongst the idiots of Glasgow council. The fall in the value of the £ relative to the Euro has apparently damaged the stag party trade to places like Riga and Prague making UK venues more attractive.

The South Devon College in Paignton created a media stir by staging a lunchtime pole dancing exhibition for it’s pupils to encourage them to exercise. Jodie Marsh appeared again at the “Players Lounge” in Tamworth on Valentines night as part of a TV show.

Ex dancer and current owner of the Aqua bar in Southampton Victoria Andrew {left} has generated quite a bit of publicity by saying she is going to qualify as a lawyer although I know several girls from the 80s who have already followed this career path.

The “Millionayr” {in Ayr !} club owner Forbes Robertson has had an application for striptease deferred 5 times by the local council on the grounds that national guidelines were about to be introduced in Scotland. It’s been confirmed now that no guidelines are actually coming but he has now been told that 5 applications is his limit anyway, good to see councils being as truthful as central government on these matters.
Britain’s burlesque superstar Immodesty Blaize  is again starring in a review at the Koko club in Camden from 11th to 14th of May with the likes of Julian Carey and Marc Almond. Dita von Tease’s season at the Crazy Horse, Paris has been so successful that it has been extended into March. Also a club in Huddersfield called Dogma has started having regular Burlesque nights. “Wildcats” along with several other premises in Blackpool was damaged in a major fire at the resort. The “Heaven” club in Stourbridge has got into trouble over the lack of a PRS license. Sky 1 is producing a male striptease reality show based on the film the Full Monty.
