LapDancing Association has set up a fighting fund for a campaign to lobby against the changes

In response to the ill informed clamour at Westminster for a clampdown on lapdancing clubs the newly formed LapDancing Association has set up a fighting fund for a campaign to lobby against the changes.

It’s been reported that Prince Charles met burlesque superstar Dita Von Tease at a Polo match and invited her to perform at his son Harry’s birthday party without understanding the nature of her act! Apparently it’s not going ahead now, a bit disappointing for Harry and his chums I’d have thought! “Sherberts” the first licensed club within the square mile of the City mentioned in last months column is now set to open on the 25th of September.

The Mayfair club “50, Dover Street” {near the Ritz Hotel} is to be renamed “Mayfair Gentleman’s Club” and is currently recruiting to convert into a lap dancing club, no opening date as yet. An application to open the old “Blue J’s” bar in Norwood High Street as a strip venue has been made.

A pub called the “White Hart” in New Cross road was turned down in it’s application to start featuring regular strip shows, an appeal is planned. The “Chevy Chase” in Stratford also had it’s application to start nude dancing turned down by the council {why do they need new powers ?}, an appeal may also follow here. Twickenham club “Piano Lounge” has had it’s application for a late license turned down on what looked pretty dubious grounds {club entrance is pink !}to me. Madonna has been recently spotted in 2 branches of Secrets apparently researching for a new film.

I understand that the owner of “Club Redd” in Burgess Hill which was destroyed by a fire started deliberately in July has vowed to re-open the club as quickly as possible. A new club called “Secrets” has opened in Penzance, no connection with the London chain. “Attica” Bedford’s 2nd club which shut earlier this year has now applied to re-open. “Obsessions” which has had a club in Manchester for a couple of years is expanding across the country with 2nd branch opening in Oldham and a 3rd in Bristol within the next month or so. The former “Cloud 10” club in Tamworth has been re-opened as “The Players Lounge” by Jodie Marsh who is apparently doing a documentary with ex government buffoon John Prescott.

The days of Edinburgh’s “Fantasy Palace” club look numbered as the building has just gained planning permission for a conversion into flats. The “Vault” Grimsby’s only strip venue has changed hands and reverted back to a conventional club. I understand that “Diamonds and Denims” in Staines also closed a few months ago. Elizabeth Lucas owner of “Tricky Dicky’s” the UK’s only full time male lap dance club {currently closed} has won substantial libel damages off the Birmingham Post and Mail over an article about her business practises. “ Cellar Bar 8” in Cambridge which includes the town’s only lap dance club has been ordered to reduce it’s hours and get a new manager after late night noise.

Hull and former GB rugby league winger Gareth Raynor was only given a suspended sentence after a vicious assault on a bouncer at Blackpool’s “Wildcat” club. “Divas” of Newquay now has a web site, as has “Halo’s” in the same town , and “Heaven Sent” of Portsmouth. Talking of “Divas” a group of 4 men in a nursing home suffering from Huntington’s disease were taken on a trip there organised by the home itself at their special request. Also Lynsey Dawn Mackenzie is working there now,

A London lawyer from top US legal firm Shearman and Sterling was fired for taking a student intern to the Windmill and making improper advances, apparently the “shocked{23 year old} student” has seen £ signs and may now sue the company itself.

The annual “Night of the senses” ball including the erotic awards takes place at “Mass and Babalou” nightclub, Brixton Hill on the 12th September. Past performers in the striptease category include strip-magazine Coverdancers Chiqui and Solitaire.

Another dancer Tammy Lefevre-Hix has been prosecuted for claiming benefits while working this time at the Katz club in Basildon.

Tyke

promised a greater say for local communities in the licensing of lapdancing clubs

No loophole exists in the Licensing Act 2003.
