promised a greater say for local communities in the licensing of lapdancing clubs

Deadbeat home secretary Jacqui Smith promised a greater say for local communities in the licensing of lap dancingclubs at the Labour party conference despite the complete absence of any evidence that there is a problem.

The media seem to have picked up on this and there are lots of totally inaccurate stories about the explosion in numbers, 50% rise in rapes in Camden etc quoting nonsense disproved 4 or 5 years ago.Doubt about the wisdom of the crackdown has already been expressed by the Police who are actively involved in this area. The aptly named Chief Inspector Adrian Studd of the Mets clubs and vice unit reported to the commons culture committee,“ Often people look for a moral decision, which is sometimes very difficult for police and local authorities to make,”

He added: “It is true to say there is no evidence they cause any crime and disorder, or very rarely, because they tend to be fairly well-run, they tend to have a fairly high staff ratio to customers, the people who tend to go there tend to be a bit older, so they don’t tend to drink so excessively and cause… problems outside.”

The credit crunch is already starting to bite at the industry, early in October the Wildcats group which had 8 clubs mainly in the north of England went into administration. It’s understood that former MD Matt Haycox has bought the Leeds and Harrogate clubs off the receivers and that most of the others are now shut and on the market.

I understand also that as well as Wildcats Aphrodite’s in Blackpool has also closed and that several other clubs in that run down resort are closed or close to closing. Also closed are Walsall’s “Cobra Lounge” club which is being converted back into a traditional pub and the UK’s first club “Route 66” in Park Royal. An attempt to open a club in Tunbridge Wells has also been abandoned for the moment.
More details have emerged about the new “Kensington Suite” mentioned last month which is part of a club to be called “Passion nights” which is opening in the former Fox pub in North End Crescent after a £2m refurbishment. There is of course local opposition but the club in which the lovely Ellouise has a management role is set to open on November 20th. The Eco bar in Slough has started striptease on Tuesday evenings.

The relatively new FYEO City road club has received an adjustment to the planning approval to allow 24 hour opening. Talking of FYEO the first Lap Dancing Association awards night were held there on the 15th of October, the “performer of the year “ was won by Faye  representing the new Kensington club. The LDA small club of the year was Blue Velvet from Newcastle, medium sized was Bandit Queen of Dudley, and large club was Spearmint at Tottenham Court Rd. I understand that the new upstairs club at the White Horse Shoreditch has got all the relevant licenses and expects to open during the middle of November.
It’s been reported in the press that Yasmin Fostok {right} the daughter of Muslim hate preacher Omar Bakri Mohammed {who was expelled from the UK a couple of years ago} now works as a pole dancer. Good to see she has ignored her idiot father’s ideas!

The commercial use of burlesque has continued to grow, Dita Von Tease {left}performed a routine to open the new Harvey Nichols store in Bristol and has also joined forces with Wonderbra to offer he own range of lingerie .

A new club in Leicester called Panache is apparently opening in November. Bournemouth’s “Fantasy Palace” club has now re-opened and the former Wildcat in Bristol has also apparently re-opened as Minx. Another new club is “Dreamgirls UK” which has opened in Boston see . A new bikini car wash is opening in Church St Blackpool called “Drive and Shine”.

“Divas” in Newquay seems to be having license problems and the local council has imposed one of the idiotic 3 ft rules. Talking of Newquay the “Mirage” club there re-opened in October after being closed for over a year. While the Pilgrim Pole dancing club is still being held up a new club called Sirens opened in the historic Barbican area of Plymouth early in October. A club called Kudos in Wells is to start having pole dancing nights.
This year’s Erotic Awards “Stripper of the year “ is this month’s Coverdancer Joy  who works in a range of pubs in the London area see joyisdancing.webeden.co.uk . Yet another dancer, this time Kate Enfield who worked at the now defunct Wildcats at Blackpool has been convicted of benefit fraud. Sergeant Eros the Aberdeen stripogram was arrested by Grampian Police for the 7th time in October and he has reported them to the PCC because they refused to give him access to his asthma treatments before releasing him yet again.
