The breakup of Spearmint Rhino has resulted in a new chain called Platinum Lace

The breakup of Spearmint Rhino in the UK which was reported in this column last year has resulted in the creation of a new chain called Platinum Lace.

Run by ex Spearmint CEO Simon Warr. The chain now operates the following strip clubs: Platinum Lace Leicester, Platinum Lace Glasgow, Platinum Lace Brighton, and Platinum Lace Norwich.
A currently closed pub called the “Brewery Tap” in Castle St, Reading  has applied to start full time lap dancing.

After a sham “ 12 week “ consultation and much to the delight of bigots and fem Nazis the idiot new lap dance laws are now scheduled to come into force on the 6th of April. It’s thought that the full impact will not become apparent until both the individual local authorities decide whether to introduce them and then existing clubs have to reapply under the new rules during a 12 month transition period. Expect yet another government created legal bonanza while the true position emerges sometime in 2011 though hopefully we will have a new government by the time it comes fully into force.

The current government’s pointless ” crack down” on the adult industry also it seems involves legislation to stop massage parlours and escort agencies advertising in local papers and unsuccessfully {so far} trying to force Ann Summers shops to have new licenses.

The new FYEO in Portsmouth mentioned last month is scheduled to open in May. Talking of FYEO the chain has had it’s application to open a new “ Blue Diamond” club in Holborn Circus, London turned down by Camden council on the grounds {as per the new law} that there are enough in the area already. A 2nd club in Peterborough called “ Pulse 8” is due to open in March. “Krystals” who operate clubs in Lincoln and Cleethorpes are opening a 3rd club in Chesterfield. Plans have been submitted including a lap dance club to redevelop the Grand Parade complex in Skegness.

The “Dejavu” bar in Luton which has run strip successfully a couple of nights a week for the past year or more is relocating to a club called “ After 8” in the same town but will now operate 6 nights a week from March 26th. The “Purple” nightclub in Margate has started strip sessions on Saturday nights.

The Chieftan Hotel in Inverness mentioned several months ago as gaining the first striptease license in the Highlands is currently up for sale.
The owner of the La Salsa clubs in Huddersfield and Halifax plus several other bars and clubs Iranian Reza Shamsaver has been arrested in connection with employing a 16 year old Romanian girl, plus money laundering and other charges.

The application to introduce striptease at “Club Imperial” on Seven Sisters Rd mentioned in previous columns has been withdrawn. The days of “Blue Rooms” Cheltenham’s only club may be numbered as the landlord has applied to convert the site into housing. “Senoritas” club in Nottingham is part of a very large nightclub complex called Isis is up for sale.
Immodesty Blaize is taking the art of Burlesque home to New York on March 11th starring in a review called Le Poisson Rouge {see lepoissonrouge.com } hosted by local comedian Murray Hill.
